PYSO is considered among the best youth orchestras in the Southland. The PYSO is comprised of middle school students from grades six through nine. These committed young people receive advanced instruction and challenging music opportunities through a rigorous program that emphasizes ensemble playing. Members of the PYSO have performed throughout the world, including venues in Vienna, New York’s Carnegie Hall, the ASTA Conference and Competition in Santa Clara and many others. Last season, the PYSO appeared in concert with the United States Air Force Academy Band, Blue Steel at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Members of PYSO have also had many opportunities for additional performances outside the full orchestra program such chamber music at Pasadena Symphony concerts and a special guest appearance on Fox’s TV sensation, Glee. PYSO falls under the auspices of the Pasadena Symphony Association and often interacts with Pasadena Symphony and POPS conductors, guest artists, musicians and staff.

We Made It!

We arrived at LAX and everyone worked together to unload and get into the terminal as quickly as possible
Once inside the terminal, we got in lines to check in, verify our passports, and turn in our luggage. Fortunately, the Bradly Terminal was not very full. Our line seemed long enough all on its own.
We eventually made it on our LTU Flight and quickly settled in. It was not a full flight so we were able to spread out a bit.
After landing at 1:32PM Local Time (4:32AM PST, yes 4:32) in Dusseldorf, we discovered that we were suppose to start boarding our connecting flight to Munich at 1:50PM. We dashed to customs on the airport bus.
As you can see, getting through customs took a little more time than the airline thought it would. We had no problems and everyone sailed through customs as well as our containers with percussion instruments.
Once we got through customs, we all had to run to the end of the terminal where they were holding the next plane for us. We took off an hour late at 3:15PM.
We finally arrived in Munich at 4:15PM where it had just rained. Fortunately, the rained stopped and it cleared up quite nicely.
We didn't have to wait long in Munich for our bags. Once again, everyone was more than helpful in getting everything loaded on our buses.
Off to Salzburg! Although there were some absolutely breath taking sights on the way to Salzburg....
Many of us could not quite stay awake...
Many of us...
Finally, at 7:30PM local time (22 hours of travel), we arrived at our hotel Castellani. It is a beautiful hotel set in the perfect part of town.

As I close for this evening, I want everyone to know that our 22 hours of travel went without any incident or problems at all due to the incredible planning. This planning started with Jean Severson many months ago and has been carried through by the able hands of Dr Jim Arnwine, our Head Chaperone Greg Fuentes, along with all of our other chaperones. A huge thank you to them for the time they have spent to make things go so smoothly.
Tomorrow it's up at 8AM nd sightseeing through Salzburg.
Bye for now.
